There is little more frustrating than a flat tire. Whether you find it when you walk out the door to head for work, or it happens while you are driving down the road, there are a couple of ways you can quickly fix a flat tire West Palm Beach. To begin with, it is always good to carry a can of Fix-A-Flat Tire Sealant and / or a tire plug kit in your car, as well as a pair of pliers.

Now let’s take a look at how you can quickly fix your flat tire.

Find the Hole

To take care of your flat tire, you must first find the hole. To do this you:

  • Fill the tire back up with air.
  • Jack up the car, so you can freely move the tire.
  • Look for nails. Using pliers, remove nails when found. Mark the spot you pulled the nail out with chalk if you are planning on using a plug.
  • If you cannot find a nail, take a mixture of dish soap and water and spray it on the tire. Look for bubbling to determine where the leak is.

Use Fix-A-Flat

Fix-A-Flat is good for a quick and easy fix for your tire, but it is not a long-term solution. If you decide to use it, plan on replacing your tire within 100 miles or three days, whichever comes first. To use Fix-A-Flat, follow the label instructions thoroughly. Typically, they are as follows:

  • Turn the wheel until the valve is at the top.
  • Attach the nozzle of the Fix-A-Flat to your tire’s stem.
  • Press the button to release the contents.
  • Drive your car to evenly distribute in the tire.

Use a Tire Plug Kit

A tire plug kit is another fairly easy option for fixing your flat tire, and it lasts longer than Fix-A-Flat. Here is how to plug your tire:

  • Remove your tire from your car.
  • Using the rasp tool in your tire plug kit, clean the hole.
  • Thread the plug through the insertion tool that comes in your tire plug kit.
  • Apply the rubber cement or glue from your kit onto the plug.
  • Use the insertion tool to push the plug into the tire, leaving about a ½ inch protruding from the top.
  • Cut away the excess, and then pump the tire up.
  • Use soapy water to make sure that the plug is not leaking
